Mid Wales… a Green Haven

Mid Wales is the UK's premier destination for green tourism. If you're planning your next break, here are some top tips on enjoying an eco-friendly holiday in Mid Wales.

With fantastic rail links from the Midlands, chose the greener way to travel to Mid Wales. What's more, The Cambrian Railways Partnership has teamed up with some of the Great Little Trains of Wales to offer visitors a 20% discount on standard day returns on a number of railways when a valid train ticket is produced. As well as running train services many of the railways featured have additional facilities, amenities and attractions such as Museums, Shops, Cafés, Licensed Bars and provide access to wonderful countryside walks – adding up to a great day out.

Ynyslas Sand Dunes on the Ceredigion coast forms part of the Dyfi National Reserve, designated a reserve in 1969 to protect the local wildlife.

With two way-marked boardwalks leading through the heart of the dunes, visitors have a brilliant vantage point from which to view the flower-rich dunes and the wide range of fascinating fauna living within the sand.

For something a little different, head to Llanwrtyd Wells this August and witness a host of crazy competitors battling it out in a sixty-yard peat bog on Waen Rhydd Bog. The World Bog Snorkelling Championship is an international sporting event brining visitors from all around the world, including competitors from Russia, Australia New Zealand and England.

A growing number of guest accommodations are now obtaining the Green Dragon Award, a recognised Welsh environmental scheme. Such properties adopting eco-friendly standards in the area include; Ty Derw B&B near Dinas Mawddwy and Dyfi Guest B&B in Machynlleth.
