If walking is your thing, Mid Wales offers a fantastic experience for walkers of all levels and ability. Ranging from coastal paths to forest walks, the region is truly a walker's paradise for all.
Choose to walk part or all of the Ceredigion Coast Path during your visit this summer. Much of the path is close to the shoreline, where walkers are guaranteed a view of the magnificent coastline as well as access to the numerous sandy beaches below.
Running from the Dyfi Estuary National Nature Reserve at Ynys Las, just north of Aberystwyth, the path sweeps around the Cardigan Bay down to the historic market town of Cardigan. Here the path ends but joins the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
Along the way, walkers can feast their eyes on a wide variety of bird life from the infamous and majestic Red Kite to the Puffin. Not forgetting the interesting range of flora and fauna alongside the path including rare and stunning orchids.
Other attractions to see on your travels are the wonderful fishing towns dotted along the path notably the small village of Llangrannog and the colourful Georgian town of Aberaeron.
Perhaps you are hoping for a closer look at the wonderful bird life on the coast, then head for Ynys-hir Nature Reserve, a reserve made up of salt marshes, wet grassland and woodland. With seven hides around the reserve, there will be plenty of opportunities to spot a range of bird species from the Greenland white-fronted geese and woodpeckers to warblers and curlews. A real treat for all ages.
At Cardigan Island Coastal Park, Gwbert-on-Sea visitors can view seals in their natural habitat and maybe a chance sighting of the Bottlenose Dolphins which frequent these waters on regular occasions. To get even closer to the dolphins and marine wildlife, visit the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre in New Quay. Join them on their daily survey boat rides along the coast and have the opportunity to encounter the dolphins as they swim by.
